Vassals of the Ghurid dynasty

The Karts were descended from the Shansabani family of Ghur. They traced their lineage to a Tajuddin Uthman Marghini, whose brother, 'Izzuddin Umar Marghini, was the Vizier of Sultan Ghiyas-ud-din Muhammad (d.1202-3). Tajuddin's son, Malik Rukn-uddin Abu Bakr, married the daughter of Sultan Ghiyas-ud-din. They in turn were the parents (or maternal grandparents) of Shams-uddin Muhammad, who founded the dynasty in 1245. Shams-uddin additionally claimed descent from the Seljuk sultan Sanjar.
