Kufr, or atheism in Islam, is a pejorative term meaning rejection or disbelief in God, as defined in Islam. It can refer to denial, refusal to accept the dominion and authority of God, or otherwise not heeding the beliefs and prescriptions held by the religion of Islam. The 'unbelief' is called kufr, while the 'unbeliever' is called a Kafir.
