Early life

Eisenhardt's parents were Albert Emil Eisenhardt of Königsberg, Prussia (now Kaliningrad, Russia) and Ella Knoll Eisenhardt. Her family was Protestant. She was born in Ramsey, New Jersey in 1891. She was hired in 1915 as an editorial assistant for Dr. Harvey Cushing. He encouraged her to go to medical school, and to continue to work for him while enrolled. Eisenhardt graduated from Tufts medical school in 1925, with the highest academic record ever attained there.
