Title

The name Al Bu Said is an Arabic dynastic name formed from ʾĀl (آل), (meaning "family of" or "House of" and Bū Saʿīd, to the personal name of an ancestor. In the case of the Al Bu Said, the ancestor is Al Muhallab ibn Abi Suffrah, whose kunya was Abu Said.

The descendants of Said bin Sultan, who ruled from 1806 to 1856, form the main Omani ruling line and use Al Said (آل سعيد) as their family name, while any descendants of Ahmad bin Said Al Busaidi use Al Busaidi.
