History

Dell's use of the Precision brand name originated at least as early as 1992 with the Precision 386SX/16 and 386SX/25, though these early systems were not workstations. Dell released its very first workstation in 1997, named the Dell Workstation 400, which notably did not actually carry the Precision name. The Precision brand name was co-opted for use as a workstation line the following year, with the release of the 1998 Dell Precision Workstation 410. Interestingly however, Dell considered their first workstation a member of the Precision family when celebrating the 25 year anniversary of its release in 2022.

In January 2025 Dell announced a major restructuring that saw the demise of the Precision brand, along with others. However the Precision name returned the following year in the form of Dell Pro Precision. (Dell Precision is discontinued but still available used and New Old Stock)
