Through Schizophrenia, Post-traumatic stress disorder and Middle East

While it is claimed that schizophrenia occurs at similar rates worldwide, its prevalence and incidence varies across the world, within countries, and at the local and neighborhood level. It causes approximately 1% of worldwide disability-adjusted life years (DALYs). The rate of schizophrenia varies up to threefold depending on how it is defined.

Burden of Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia is not only a heavy mental illness to burden, but can cause other health problems as a result. Approximately half of individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia will also be diagnosed with another mental/behavioral disorder in their lifetime. These include panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), generalized anxiety disorder, and social anxiety disorder. These factors cause individuals lifespans to decrease about 28.5 years. This is also known as premature mortality.
