Through Islam, Muslims and Jews

In 2023, the country was scored 1 out of 4 for religious freedom. In the same year, the country was ranked as the 3rd worst country in the world to be a Christian.

Religious demography

In 2008, virtually all citizens are Muslims, either belonging to the Zaydi order of Shi'a Islam (45%-50%) or to the Shafa'i order of Sunni Islam (55-50%). Due to unrest and a mass movement of citizens, there are no definite figures for the 2020s; however most sources agree that the country is 99% Muslim, with at least a third of these following Zaydism.

Jews are oldest religious minority. Nearly all of the country's once-sizable Jewish population has emigrated and fewer than 10 Jews remain in the country.

The largest religious minority is Hinduism.

In 2023, Christians as a group make up 0.06% of the country’s population. Many of these are temporary foreign workers or refugees.
