Range

The mushroom is found in Yunnan province (China) and the Cordillera Administrative Region (Philippines), where it is known as Jianshouqing (Chinese: 见手青; pinyin: Jiànshǒuqīng; lit. 'see-hand-blue', as the flesh oxidizes to a blue color when crushed) and Sedesdem respectively. There have also been reports of "mushroom madness" caused by a mushroom called nonda in Papua New Guinea, though Lanmaoa species do not inhabit that country. Lanmaoa asiatica is mycorrhizal with Pinus and thus must be collected from the wild.
