Etymology

The Sanskrit word prārthanā (Sanskrit: प्रार्थना) can mean prayer, request, entreaty, petition, supplication or desire.

In A Practical Sanskrit Dictionary, Arthur Anthony Macdonell lists prārthana as a neuter noun and prārthanā as the more common feminine form. Both forms have the same meanings.
