Through Islam, Muhammad and Muhammad in Islam

A single honest recitation of the Shahada is all that is required for a person to become a Muslim according to most traditional schools.

Testimonies

The declaration reads:

Translation:

lit. 'There is no god but God'

Translation:

lit. 'Muhammad is the Messenger of God'

The above two statements are commonly prefaced by the phrase ašhadu ʾan (lit. 'I bear witness that'), yielding the full form:

Translation:

lit. 'I bear witness that there is no god but God, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of God.'
